Foundation “Obshestvo za decata” ("Society for the Children") was established on July, 17 1998 (the day of Saint Marina). The foundation is legal entity with nonprofit purpose of carrying out socially useful activity, registered in the Central Register of Ministry of Justice of Republic of Bulgaria to perform, as accredited body, mediation services for international adoptions in accordance with the provisions of Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption, Bulgarian legislation and legislation in force in the country of origin of our partners. The Foundation collaborates with accredited organizations in the Republic of Italy and the Federation of Canada. Foundation`s employees are qualified specialists in international adoption - lawyers, psychologist, pedagogue, pediatrician, translators of Italian, English and French. Foundation “Obshestvo za decata” is guided by the following principles:
• Strict compliance with the international adoption’s legislation;
• Regarding the best interests of the child as the most important consideration;
• Observing interests of prospective adoptive parents;
• Teamwork and strict division of functions and responsibilities of members and experts of the Foundation;
• Support of different institutions in which are housed children deprived of parental care;
• Collaboration and cooperation with all bodies, institutions and organizations in the Republic of Bulgaria and foreign authorities involved in international adoptions. Foundation “Obshestvo za decata” is a member of the Association "Accredited organizations for international adoptions", in which take part about twenty organizations accredited by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Bulgaria for mediation in international adoptions. Foundation “Obshestvo za decata” has made numerous donations and participated in the realization of various projects to improve the living conditions and childrens development in social institutions. In 2000, Foundation “Obshestvo za decata” has issued Italian – Bulgarian phrasebook in favor of the adoptive parents in the process of communication and adaptation of adopted children.
